Junk Food: food that has low nutritional value, typically produced in the form of packaged snacks needing little or no preparation.

Each year on July 21st we observe National Junk Food Day.  This day is dedicated to the foods that everyone loves to snack on.  Junk food by definition are usually high in fats, sugars, salt and calories and contain very little nutritional value.


Celebrate by consuming your favorite junk food. You can also celebrate by taking a walk or doing some yard work to burn off those extra calories.


Within our research, we were unable to find the creator and origin of National Junk Food Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

  • Though soda and candy are delicious snacks, they do lower your quality of health and increase your consumption of non-beneficial food.
  • Americans spent $2.8 billion on candy last Halloween alone, and an annual $117 billion on fast food. Nearly half of Americans drink soda daily.
  • According to a recent survey of American workers by Accounting Principals, Americans who regularly buy coffee throughout the week spend on average, $1,092 on coffee annually.
